How often have you been to Mission Bay, Auckland, and wished you could have an elevated food experience for lunch?
If you haven’t been to Mission Bay, it’s a real treat. The beach is part of the charming Hauraki Gulf, the jewel in the crown of the city of sails.
Mission Bay is one of the many beautiful beaches along this part of Auckland’s foreshore. It is something to behold, with the icon Rangitoto looming in the distance.
The day we visited was a beautiful summer day with a high of 25 Celsius. When you live in Singapore, these are ideal temperatures. Crisp in the morning and a fresh breeze. No need for a jacket today.
It’s situated in the building on the bay, an old mission house. Stunning in its historic form. Black slate stone with white grouting. It’s in front of the playground, so it’s perfect for those visiting with kids. They have kids’ bento boxes, which are also a treat for the little and big ones if you don’t mind the cost.
Today, we were having a strictly adult lunch in Mission Bay, Auckland, which was exciting for my lunch buddy, who typically has her clever 6-year-old in tow.
We were seated for lunch by the friendly hostess and felt directly at home, looking over Mission Bay’s beach.
While I did my best to upset the wobbly table, I ensured all other guests knew that I was there in the most un-elegant way. We had the table fixed in a few minutes, and once Rachel-proofed, we got down to the menu. There was much to choose from, and we quickly decided on something from every food group on the menu.

Meanwhile, Abbey assured me that the chilli edamame was the best she’d tried. We decided to go straight to the cerviche. We had tuna with lotus chips; the sauce was so yummy, and lumps of avo were irresistible. The tostadas were close to something you could make at home, so we skipped them, as Abbey classified them as a non-event.
